南韓總統朴槿惠因密友崔順實干政，聲望慘跌到只剩5％。為了止血，她不僅2度公開道歉，同意接受司法調查，也火速撤換青瓦台8名核心幕僚，同時提名金秉准為國務總理成立中立內閣。但「閨蜜門」引發的政治風暴並無平息跡象，約4萬名民眾5日聚集在首都首爾市中心街頭，高聲要求她下台。
原本警方以交通壅塞為由，禁止群眾集會遊行，不過首爾法院最後批准公民可集會。主辦單位之一「民眾總動員鬥爭本部」估計，5日晚在市中心光化門廣場的燭光集會有10萬人參與，但警方估計現場人數為3至4萬。
現場民眾拿出各式抗議標語並高喊口號，要求朴槿惠為閨蜜崔順實干政辭職下台，抗議「地下政府危害國家」。抗議行動持續到午夜，南韓警方也調動2萬名鎮暴警察維護秩序，避免憤怒的群眾向青瓦台挺進。
一名53歲安姓民眾說：「我覺得朴槿惠應該下台，因為她已喪失作為總統的所有道德權威。」另一名20歲政治系學生金度玄（音）說：「真正讓人憤怒的是，崔順實有如朴槿惠的攝政，控制她的決策。」
閨蜜門爆發後，市民組成「民眾總動員鬥爭本部」表達他們的怒火，成員包括「全國民主工會總聯盟」、全國教職員工會、鐵道工會等50多個市民團體。另外由全國40多所大學學生會組成的「全國大學生時局會議」也加入撻伐朴槿惠行列。他們自1日起每晚都在首爾金融中心前舉行燭光集會。
就連文藝界也組成「我們都是黑名單藝術家」，5日上午在光化門前發表演說，要求嚴辦「黑名單」始作俑者，並召開國會聽證會查明真相。「閨蜜門」烈火延燒，連帶讓青瓦台疑似封殺藝人的「黑名單」曝光，這些人曾因批評政府處理「世越號」船難不當而被封殺或被取消補助金。除了首爾，釜山、大田、慶尚南道昌原等地，也同步舉行燭光集會，要求朴槿惠下台。
朴槿惠任期至2018年2月，倘若她提早辭職下台，依法得在60天內舉行大選。但外界認為這個可能性不高。
